13TH ANNUAL AUSTRALIAN SURF INDUSTRY AWARDS CELEBRATE EXCELLENCE

Manly, 25th October 2024 – The surf industry gathered last night at the iconic Manly Pacific Hotel to celebrate the 13th Annual Australian Surf Industry Awards (ASI Awards). This year was particularly special as it marked the first awards under the newly invigorated Australian Surf Industry Association brand. Over 120 leading industry retailers and brand representatives came together to recognise the best in the business.

Hosted by ASI Board Member Damian “Damo” Campbell and Executive Officer Lyndall Browning, the night saw 21 awards presented, celebrating outstanding achievements across brands, products, retail, and marketing.

Notable highlights included Volcom clinching the Men’s Marketing Campaign of the Year award for a fifth consecutive year—a race that was exceptionally close. REEF continued its reign, taking home Footwear Brand of the Year for the sixth year in a row, while OTIS again dominated the Eyewear Brand of the Year category, marking their fourth consecutive win. JS Surfboards took out Surfboard of the Year for the sixth consecutive year, cementing their consistent excellence in the category.

In the retail awards, Dylan Schultz of Strapper Surf was recognised as Store Manager of the Year. Star Surf + Skate celebrated their third consecutive win for Single Store Retailer of the Year, and Coopers claimed the top honour as Multi Store Retailer of the Year. In an extremely close contest, SurfBoard Empire once again took home Core Board Store of the Year for the fourth year in a row.

Ocean & Earth had a standout evening, walking away with five awards including Small to Medium Brand, Product Innovation, Surfing Accessory, Account Manager of the Year and Sales and Customer Service Office of the YearBillabong were another big winner on the night taking out Large Brand, Boardshort Brand, Swimwear Brand and Women’s Marketing Campaign of Year. Rip Curl continued its unprecedented dominance by securing the Wetsuit of the Year award, marking their unbeaten victory in this category.

A special highlight of the evening was a fireside chat with Olympian Molly Picklum, who joined ASI Board Member Ian ‘Wooly’ MacPherson for an inspiring discussion on her journey and surfing. The crowd was also entertained by the talented DJ Shimmy (Dimity Stoyle), who once again kept the energy high throughout the night.

Lastly, but certainly not least was the all-important Tag Team Surfing Event, an iconic tradition held on Manly Beach as part of the ASI Awards celebrations. This event has become a cornerstone of the festivities, drawing fierce competition and spirited heckling from the sidelines. In the end, the Retail All Stars team took home this prestigious title for yet another year, further solidifying their dominance in this much-loved competition.

The 13th Annual ASI Awards were a testament to the passion, innovation, and dedication of the surf community. As the Australian Surf Industry Association embarks on this new chapter, the spirit of camaraderie and excellence continues to shine brighter than ever.
