Professional Australian surfer & 8 x World Champion, Steph Gilmore is our 2023 Surfer of the Year. A leader in female surfing, Steph has been dominating & making history since she won her first world title back in 2007. Since then, Steph has won world titles in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018 & most recently in 2022 at the WSL Finals in the USA.
Steph grew up a true-blue Aussie in Murwillumbah, NSW & her interests outside of surfing include photography & playing the guitar. Beyond her 8 WSL World Titles, she also has 34 elite World Tour victories & has collected a number of prestigious awards for her efforts in the industry.
Using her influential platform to tackle issues that are important to her, Steph has said that the best moment of her career was announcing equal prize pay at WSL & closing the gender pay gap. Her 8 world titles, spanning across three decades, are only eclipsed by male surfer Kelly Slater, who has 11. Fellow-Aussie great, Layne Beachley, has even coined Steph “The Greatest Surfer of All Time”. Her journey to greatness is now complete.
