Creatures of Leisure has been awarded Gold at the prestigious Australian Good Design Awards in recognition of their PROTO™1.4 Traction Pad’s outstanding innovation. The surf grip not only reduces material waste from 67% to just 5%, but also improves overall performance for surfers wanting to stay more engaged with their boards. The revolutionary design is the first major leap forward in surf traction since it was invented almost half a century ago.
“The PROTO™1.4 Traction Pad challenges unsustainable manufacturing while significantly improving on the performance of traditional surfing traction pads.” The Good Design Awards Jury commented. “Exceptional grip, comfort and recoil kick capabilities allow surfers to connect with their board and take control of their movements.”
Creatures PROTO™1.4 Traction Pad sits alongside other outstanding winners for 2023, including a world-first airborne disease tracking device for agricultural crops, a long-range survey drone which can gather critical aerial data safely, plus an artificial reef system which helps prevent beach erosion while providing habitats for sea life.
“To be awarded gold is super humbling for a small but awesome company like us, especially alongside such amazing designs and initiatives,” says Creatures Head of Product & Brand, Beau Campi. “It’s a real boost to have our team’s hard work acknowledged on this level outside the surf industry . It motivates us to keep improving and push our own industry to rise up for positive change.”
The Good Design Awards are the highest honour for design and innovation in Australia, and are recognised on a global level. They embody the philosophy that design has the power to shape a better world. Past winners include the likes of the Tesla Model S, Flowhive, A-380 jet and more.
“To be recognised with an Australian Good Design Award tells the world this project not only represents design excellence, but it also surpasses the criteria for design innovation and design impact. The Good Design Award is an independent endorsement of professional design quality,” says Dr. Brandon Gien, CEO of Good Design Australia and Chair of the Australian Good Design Awards.
