To celebrate AUS Music Month, Brixton have teamed up with Rudderless Records’ Ben Leece to create 5 ‘Wednesdays on Wax’ playlists, diving into different genres of music.
With music being an important aspect to all things Brixton, they are excited to share these playlists with our community!
“As a brand this is very important to us, we are celebrating Oz music’s past, current and future artists. Music is deeply rooted in our brand, this is the reason Brixton is a brand. (bunch of guys who played in a punk band).
Music allows you to feel an emotion, it puts you in a place of time, draw’s memories and there is no better feeling than walking into a live show and feeling that thud of a bass kick drum hit you right in the heart.
Please help celebrate Oz music, we have some of the best global artists right here in our back yard!” Mark Nelmes

Week 2 – “ THE UNDERSOUND”
“2023 MARKS HIP HOP’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY”
Australia is a long way from the Bronx, but we have roots in the genre that run deeper than you might think.
Week 1 – “The Sell In”
Inspired by the book written by Australian music journalist and author Craig Mathieson, ‘the sell in’ is all about Aussie alternative bands of the 90’s and beyond.
When Nevermind broke, labels fell over themselves to find the next Nirvana. Australia already had one of the healthiest indie music scenes in the world, and in the 90’s alternative acts became household names.
Week 3 – “Know Your Product”
Paying homage to Australian’s home grown The Saints, this week’s genre is punk/garage punk/post punk.
THE SAINTS LIT THE FIRE WAY BACK WHEN AND IT’S BEEN BURNING EVER SINCE.
Australia has its own brand of punk rock and it hits hard. Diverse in sound with a common punk rock energy running throughout.
Week 4 – “Torch & Twang “
It’s no secret the Country Music scene has sky-rocketed in Australia over recent years, so this week’s genre is country/alt country/folk/roots & Australiana.
COSMIC SONGWRITERS, SINGERS AND HONKY TONK SLINGERS.
Australia has a long rich history of alternative country and roots music and the future is looking real bright.
Week 5 – “Riff Raff”
If there’s one thing Australia knows it’s rock and roll. With roots as long as you’d like them, they continue to grow.
A genre at the core of how Brixton began, our final playlist for AUS Music Month is rock/alternative.
