Dragon Alliance this week announced the inclusion of Sunshine Coast native, Sophie McCulloch to the Dragon team.
Sophie is the latest export from the Sunny Coast who is on the verge of qualifying for the Championship Tour. Hailing from the beautiful waters of coastal Queensland, Sophie is no stranger to epic waves, which have provided her with the perfect training ground to refine her skills and compete with the best.
“Sophie brings such an explosive personality to any competition she enters, and to be honest, it’s exhilarating to watch. It’s been great to see her come into her own this year and have a couple great finishes to kick off the competition season, we can only imagine the year she’s going to have when she’s started this well,” — said Dragon’s Domestic Surf Team Manager Tully Wylie.
More than just an excellent surfer but also an outstanding student, Sophie recently graduated with a Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Marketing, marrying her love of business, science, and sport to build solid foundations for a career outside of surfing.
Sophie’s dedication to her craft has started to pay dues—big ones. She recently took her explosive talent to the Phillip Island Pro QS 1000, where she claimed scalps and walked away with her maiden Qualifying Series win. Furthermore, to ascertain her position as one of countries brightest up and coming talents, she busted out a semi-final finish at the Avoca Beach QS 3000, and a second-place finish in the Tweed Coast QS 5000.
We can’t wait to rally behind Sophie as she shifts her focus to the Challenger Series, which kicks off next month. We know that Sophie is building towards something special and we are thrilled to have a front-row seat as she continues to make her mark on a bigger stage.
