Built for a brighter future, the Sentry Solar will stay powered for a full day after an hour of exposure to indoor light or up to six months after only six hours of direct sun and never need a battery replacement. Merging a black-tie meets block party aesthetic in a way only Nixon can do, the Sentry Solar series adds a heightened aesthetic to eco-friendly design.
Comprised of the Sentry Solar Stainless Steel ($430) and Sentry Solar Leather ($360), this collection incorporates the elements that made the original Sentry one of Nixon’s best-selling timepieces, upgraded with a unique finish, earth-friendly power source, and a slimmer overall feel with a reduced case size and band width. The Sentry Solar’s case back reads “Never Be Dead,” a progression of the “Never Be Late” inscription on the original Sentry watches, drawing a correlation to the limitless power available to keep the watch charged.
The focal point of the Sentry Solar is its semi-transparent dial designed with a sun ray finish that allows light to pass through to the solar cell beneath. Custom skeleton hands with Lum tips add visibility to the Epson Japanese solar quartz 3-hand movement. Applied stainless steel indices, a date window, and up printed seconds track add additional detail to this updated Nixon classic. An upgraded domed hardened mineral crystal sits atop the Sentry Solar’s 40mm stainless steel case protecting everything below.
The Sentry Solar is available in three face and case colours, with either a tapered 20mm leather strap or a tapered 20mm solid stainless steel bracelet. All models feature quick-release spring bars for easy customisation with Nixon’s new band program. Pressure tested, the Sentry Solar also has a 10 ATM / 100m water rating that ensures it can hang in the real world.
The Sentry Solar series is the latest introduction in Nixon’s continued efforts toward sustainability. In 2020, Nixon was the first U.S.-based brand to release a bag collection utilising REPREVE® Our Oceans fibre. The 2021 release of the Light-Wave marked the first time #tide® brand recycled ocean plastics were integrated into a solar-powered analog watch. More recent environmentally considerate introductions include the solar-powered Optimist, automatic-movement Spectra, and the tide watch collection made from #tide ocean plastics. Nixon also utilizes 100% recycled and curbside recyclable packaging throughout its watch collection.
